While watching an interview with the president of AIGA (America
Institute of Graphic Arts) Sean Adams, I learned that “you do not choose
design, design chooses you”. This statement shows that designing isn’t just a
skill someone can learn, it’s something that comes from within. Although, Education
is still important. You do need some kind of Education to succeed in the
designing world since it is a very demanding career. Apparently, this is a
career that requires a number of connections to successfully expand and grow in
this field.
In the interview Sean Adams also gives great advice about interviewing
for a job and how to deal with the changes of technology. The advice he
provided for interviewing for a job was to keep a portfolio that is simple. As
a person who hires an interviews people, he looks for portfolios that are easy
to understand and that get right to the point. On the side of technology and
how quick it speeds up the process of designing, Adams recommend his students
to learn to adapt to the changes in technology. The more skills we designers learn
the more opportunities we can find while looking for a job. With all of these
great advice being given by a person who is already established in the
designing field, it gives me a great start to further succeed in this field.
